Welcome!
As a clinical psychologist in private practice in Chicago, Illinois, I've developed many
different counseling programs to address your unique needs and circumstances. Thank you
for the opportunity to tell you a little bit about them. These programs are designed to
facilitate a process of healing and growth that enables you to acquire a greater degree of
independence, autonomy, and self- integration. The objectives of my programs are to enable
you to:
- move
toward increased awareness
- gradually
assume ownership of your experience (as opposed to making others
responsible for what you are thinking, feeling, and doing)
- develop
skills and acquire values that will allow you to satisfy your needs without violating the
rights of others
- become
more aware of all of your senses
- learn to
accept responsibility for what you do, including accepting the consequences of your
actions
- move from
environmental support toward internal support
- increasingly
be able to ask and get help from others and to give to others
It's my
belief that I am not treating a disease or disorder, rather I am working with an
individual who is experiencing some specific difficulty in adjusting or developing in
their life. Our work together is focused on helping you discover the self-defeating
patterns of thinking, feeling, or acting that have contributed to your lack of growth in
the areas that you are currently
experiencing difficulty.
Working
together in a partnership with you in a safe environment, we'll explore the ways to create
new choices to your self-defeating patterns of thinking, acting, and feeling. These
self-defeating patterns are more times than not developed as a means of coping and
protecting yourself emotionally and interpersonally. However, these self-defeating coping
styles can become a rigid and constricted way of living your life. As protective as these
patterns may have once been for you, they may have begun to create emotional discomfort
for you today.
Therefore,
our work together will focus on the identification and development of more self-supporting
ways in which you can make life-choices that support your goal of wholeness and wellness.
A life of wholeness and wellness can be thought of as you having: 1) an openness to
experiences, 2) a trust in yourself, 3) an internal source of evaluation, and 4) a
willingness to continue growing.
More
specifically, these four dimensions should allow you to feel more free in your
interactions with others. You should be able to manage your interpersonal anxiety more
effectively. A trust in yourself will allow you to share more openly and more deeply with
the significant others in your life.
Utilizing your internal source of evaluation will allow you to commit yourself more deeply
to others without the fear of losing your own own identity. Ultimately, you'll discover
new solutions to old life challenges. These new solutions will infuse your life with
hopefulness and a new sense of purposefulness.
