The Mission of the Adult Children Institute...
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, yet
expecting different results!
The Adult Children Institute was founded in Chicago, Illinois
in 1988 by
Dr. Steve Frisch, Psy.D. He founded the Adult Children Institute in order
to treat those individuals:
Whose emotional and spiritual well-being had been decimated by
drug addiction and alcoholism.
Who had developed rigid, limiting, self-defeating coping mechanisms as a result of having
to cope with and survive familial alcoholism and drug addiction.
Whose unresolved wounds from emotional neglect poison the relationship they have with
themselves and the people in their lives.
Who suffered from the traumatic aftereffects of sexual and physical abuse.
By integrating the 12-Steps with transpersonal psychology and
practical spirituality, Dr. Frisch, Psy.D. has developed treatment protocols that empower
people to overcome their fears, heal their emotional wounds, free themselves from the
self-defeating behaviors that sabotage their best efforts to openly love and be loved by
the people in their life, and [re]connect with their Higher Power.
We Give In Order That We May Keep...
A fundamental element of Recovery is SERVICE. SERVICE
is any action that carries the message of Recovery to others. In that spirit Dr. Frisch,
Psy.D. founded Alive And Well Publications in 1995 to carry the message
of Recovery to others. Through Alive And Well Publications, Dr. Frisch, Psy.D. began
publishing materials he had written based on his years of clinical work treating alcoholism, drug addiction,
codependency, Adult Children of Alcoholics, and Adult Survivors of Physical/Sexual Abuse.
His free online books,
special reports, recovery
corner, self-help
column, self-help
journal, and self-help
newsletter focus on the heart and soul of Recovery--personal, interpersonal, and
spiritual healing, growth, and evolution.
In the kinship of common suffering,
one alcoholic had been talking to another!
Dr. Frisch, Psy.D. developed AdultChildrenInstitute.com to create a community for
participants in all 12-Step programs. Here people can come together to learn about
Recovery, exchange experiences, and shape and mold their own path to emotional and
spiritual well-being. In this spirit, Dr. Frisch, Psy.D. offers this Web Site, the Web
Site's community of fellowship, his online books, reports, and pamphlets free to anybody
who is seeking to learn about Recovery, get into Recovery, and/or to better understand how
to enhance their Recovery program.
